The Sorting Ceremony

The Sorting Ceremony was about to start. We were all standing in the wide hallway. Suddenly, the big doors opened. Feeling both nervous and excited, I walked into the Great Hall. They called my name. As I walked up to the stool, I saw the whole school staring at me. When the hat was put on my head, it slid down over my eyes. There was a spider in the hat! The material was so weird! The hat was disgusting! Taking it off that second would have felt great.

To take my mind off the hat, I thought about which house I wanted to be in. I think all the houses are fine, except Slytherin. They are selfish. For example, if they have to, they’ll hurt someone to win. Even though I like Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, Gryffindor’s my favorite. I have no idea where the hat’s going to put me, but two of my traits are wanting to do the right thing, and being kind.

Wait a second, is it good that they sort us into houses? I guess it is because we get to be with people like us, we get to be part of a group, and we’ll have people to depend on. But it’s also bad because people can be split from their friends, and you can’t meet new people. I’m not sure if sorting people into groups is good.
